Saturday May 17 @ Chailey Mansion, Newburyport MA
Lowell Photography Weekend, reception at 119 Gallery 3-5pm, it’s a busy day. I clear out the gallery and mop the floor. Mary Ann finishes exhibition labels and sets up for the reception. Jack and Ben in residence, sounds ring through the gallery, Jack’s saxophone and Ben his own tiny gamelan.

At 6pm we pack up and head out: Jack and Ben to Sonorium in Salem; Mary Ann, Stephanie and I to the Chailey Mansion in Newburyport. Gregory Kowalski and Brett Mason are setting outside on the lawn enjoying the river and the sun. We join them. Steve Norton arrives in time to take some nice photos of the bridge, a little east of the mansion. Marc Bisson and Dei Xhrist arrive as the sun sets. Greg starts a fire.

At 9pm we convene in the “ballroom.” Marc is already playing. Brett cuts paper, sets up his easel. Greg set up his projector. Visuals all set. The lineup is –

Tuesday May 20 @ Washington St Arts, Somerville MA
There are advantages to touring locally: normal daily schedule, our own food, minimal driving, sleeping at home. On the other hand there are disadvantages: normal daily schedule, etc. In the afternoon, UML Painting Dept students still dropping off work. The exhibition is 80% complete. Stephanie and I head back to Washington Street Art, tonight we play with Wei Zhongle. We arrive in plenty of time, time to hang out with Michael Rosenstein. Rob Jacob’s dad, his friend and Joe Burgio are our audience. Rob, John and Sam arrive halfway through our set.

Lak Wright Duo: Stephanie Lak – voice, cassettes, electronics; Walter Wright – electronics; with Michael Rosenstein – homebrew electro-acoustic instruments.
Wei Zhongle: Rob Jacobs – voice, guitar; John McCowen – clarinet; Sam Klickner – drums

I record our set, listen here.

Wednesday May 21 @ Wilder Zangcraft, Lowell MA
Popcorn Noir didn’t work out, we jump on the Wilder Zangcraft lineup. More paintings arrive for the UML Painting Dept exhibition, Perspectives VI. Eileen Ryan’s self portrait as the Virgin, and two more, self portraits, by Britini Chandler. Eileen’s is 6′ tall by 4′ wide on an oval frame. One of Britini’s is black, the other white. One more painting to go, Alex Derderian arrives late afternoon. I hang the work.

Mary Ann works on marketing materials for Mill City Skill Share. Steph is off having all 20 of nails manicured. Wei Zhongle arrive at the gallery around 6pm. After a brief visit, we head over to the gig, without Mary Ann who is still working on marketing materials and Steph who is still being manicured.

The schedule for the night is –

  8:00pm – Wei Zhongle
  8:45pm – Gym Shorts
  9:30pm – Lak Wright Duo
10:15pm – Froth
11:00pm – New Highway Hymnal

Tonite it’s Steph and myself, no additional musicians. We play in the livingroom. Mary Ann arrives in time to see the last 2 bands Froth and NHH. A good crowd, we’re home by midnight.

I did not record our set.
